What: The Bowie Miracle: A contest for one free ticket to see Phish at the Bill Graham Civic Center in San Francisco on Sunday August, 19th 2012, and a free, signed copy of “Mr. Miner’s Phish Thoughts, an Anthology of Writing by a Fan For the Fans.”
Why: We have a ticket to miracle, however the miraclee must be a Bowie fan.
The short story: If you don’t have a ticket for the Sunday night BGCC San Francisco run and are a Bowie fan this contest is for you. Essentially, we love Bowie and we want you to make us understand your love of Bowie and, more importantly, how you got Bowie, when you got it and why. Maybe you got it from the first time you heard it or maybe it took a few times till the song just clicked for you. Whatever the case may be, you have a favorite Bowie and/or Bowie moment. All you need to do is tell us about it according to the contest rules. Judging is totally subjective and we will pay absolutely no costs for your travel to and from BGCC. One lucky winner submits an essay and gets a ticket to the show. No more, no less.
Contest Rules:
- You send, via the United States Postal Service, a document describing your favorite version of Bowie to The Bowie Miracle, PO Box 9581, Seattle, WA 98109
- Entries must be postmarked between June 4 and June 27.
- It is 500 words or less (If you’re explaining it to us without words, or handwritten, keep it to one side of one 81/2 x 11 page).
- We should be able to read your writing. If you are typing use at least 10 point font, if you are hand writing be legible.
- Plagiarism is not cool – quote your sources, if you use any. (your bibliography will count against your 500 word limit).
- Spelling counts and so do punctuation and grammar in general.
- This ticket has no monetary value and should be treated as a gift
- You will not re-sell the ticket.
- We will not pay any of your costs related to this event. All we can do is hand you a ticket before the show. We recommend that you would otherwise be hanging around BGCC crying / begging for a ticket or doing so virtually.
- By submitting, you agree to have your material published in a Zine (Seriously, we plan to photocopy it.) as well as online. Any profits from said Zine will benefit The Mockingbird Foundation.
- You need to provide us with valid contact info (This will not be printed, but whatever name you give us will.) so we can contact you if you win or if we have questions.
- If you are the contest winner, it would be rad, if on August 19th, you could meet us in the “lot” where we will be taking donations for the Zine and share your masterpiece by reading it out loud.
- Again, this is subjective and for the love of Phish and Bowie, plus we thought we could get a cool, old school, Zine out of it, with hopefully some donations to Mockingbird, and we think that is great.
